Ate Bear Went Full Tech Nerd Again 🐻💻
Hello bear! 🐻👋
I'm back with a lot of news and stories to tell.
Let's start!
...
First, I want to apologize for last time.
Remember in my previous blog post when I said I didn't want to talk about tech-nerd stuff anymore?
Well...
I broke that promise. 😅
There hasn't been much going on in my life lately, but I've been customizing this site a lot, so I don't really have a choice but to talk about it.

...
New slash pages
I told you I was adding slash pages, right?
Well, I did!
I listed all of them on my /slashes page. If you can click a page, that means it's available. If you can't, it's either still in my drafts or I haven't created it yet.

My backup site is now open source
Remember when I mentioned my backup site a couple of posts ago?
Well...
It's now open source!
"But wait... didn't you say you wanted to stay anonymous under your pen name, Ate Bear?"
Yes, and I still do.
Originally, my backup lived in a private repository on my personal GitHub account, and there was no way I was making that public.
So instead, I created a brand new GitHub account under the username atebear.
GitHub account: github.com/atebear
From there, I created a new public repository, installed Hugo-BearBlog as a submodule, transferred everything from my private repository, and started backing up my BearBlog site there instead.
The last backup in my private repository was from May 30, so it was already outdated.
I transferred everything first without changing anything.
Then over the last two days, I updated everything to match the current version of my site.
Repository: github.com/atebear/blog
While doing that, I also noticed Hugo-BearBlog was missing some features that BearBlog has, so I decided to implement them myself.
Features I added because BearBlog has them:
- Highlighted text using the "
<mark>" HTML tag - "Last edited" timestamps (like Last edited: 3 hours ago)
- Redirect aliases
Features I added that neither BearBlog nor Hugo-BearBlog has:
- Automatic page and post titles
- Custom footer text/citation
- Blog list titles
- Alerts and callouts
At this point...
I've customized almost every part of the theme. 🤭

Other little additions
I also created a custom badge using Custom Icons Badge by DemoLabs.
You can find it on my Collections page and in my site's footer.
I also made a README Typing SVG (also by DemoLabs) and added it to my homepage.
The message is from MoonBear's website. After visiting their site, it gave me an idea of making the Typing SVG.
Finally, I added a BY-NC-ND badge by Creative Commons and Open Source Love badge by Eller Brock to the site.

If you're curious, feel free to check them out!
That's all for today's little update.
Thanks for wandering through my little forest and making it all the way to the end of this post! 🐻🌲
